Video audition: Substitute Contrabassoon player with obligation to play 2nd Bassoon

Audition repertoire:

  • The following concerto movements with piano accompaniment, no cadenzas:
    • W. A. Mozart: Concerto KV1 191: 1st movement, to be played on bassoon
    • W. A. Mozart: Concerto KV 191: 2nd movement, to be played on contrabassoon
  • The following orchestral excerpts:
    • Bassoon:
      • Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique, mvt 4 “Marche au Supplice” (bassoon 3, bars 49–63)
      • Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique, mvt 5 “Songe d’une nuit du sabbat” (bassoon 3, bars 47–64
      • Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6, mvt 4 “Finale: Adagio lamentoso” (bars 1–36)
    • Contrabassoon:
      • Elgar: Symphony No. 2, mvt 4 “Moderato e maestoso” (from rehearsal number 136 to 2 bars after 137)
      • Haydn: The Creation, Part II No. 26 “Chor und Terzett: Vivace” (bars 1–37)
      • Mahler: Symphony No. 9, mvt 4 “Adagio” (bars 28–30)

Deadline for applications:

The deadline for applications is 3.00 p.m. Finnish time on Friday, 5th of April 2019.


Video audition:

Applications must be accompanied by a CV and a video recording of the applicant performing the audition repertoire.

The video recording must be made with a single camera facing the player so that both the player and the instrument are visible at all times. Post-processing of the sound and/or image is prohibited. The works must all be in one single video file in the above mentioned order. They can be recorded as separate takes except all orchestral excerpts which have to be recorded in one take.

Maximum sound and visual quality should be aimed at in the recording.

The recording must not be sent as a file. Instead, it should be uploaded to a web service (Vimeo or YouTube) where it can be viewed, and it must be accessible without a password. The link should be inserted at the point stated on the application form. We kindly ask that the video description includes the detailed time index of the works and excerpts.

Applications that do not include a video link will not be considered.


Please note this audition is for possible temporary posts as substitute or extra musician.
